How do I manage order volume with order throttling settings?
Ensure that ChowNow orders do not exceed your kitchen’s ability to fulfill tickets on time by staggering orders with Order Throttling.
ChowNow’s Order Throttling feature is easy to set up and will ensure that your staff is able to fulfill orders in a timely manner.
How it works:
ChowNow can limit the amount of orders your restaurant will receive, based on 15 minute time slots.
ASAP Orders
If your restaurant has filled up the current time slot, then customers will be automatically presented with the next available time.
Think of this like a virtual line going out the door of a busy restaurant. A long line usually tells customers, “hey, we’re busy and this might take a little longer”
Future Orders
Additionally, any time slots in the future that are already full will be hidden. In the example below, the 2:00 PM time slot is full.
Getting Started:
Step 1: Determine your kitchen’s limits
- How many orders can your kitchen fulfill during a peak hour?
- Check out your order history, this can help you see how many orders per hour you are currently doing.
- Also, your Restaurant Success Manager can look at your sales data and help brainstorm a good starting setting as well
Step 2: Best Practices and Considerations
We recommend the Order Throttling feature for restaurants that:
- Have enabled the “Order Ahead” setting, so customers can select times in the future for when the current time slot is full.
- The majority of your restaurant’s ChowNow orders come from your website. Orders placed on your website provide the best customer experience while orders are being throttled.
