Photo guidelines

A great photo will get those tummies grumbling. You don’t have to be a pro photographer— just follow these three simple tips to make every dish shine.

Make your pictures clear:

  • Use high resolution images (.JPG preferred).
    • File size: under 10 MB.
    • Height & width minimum: 1200 x 1200 pixels.
  • Aim for a clear, crisp photo. If it’s blurry or grainy, try again.
  • Ensure your photos are well-lit.
  • For background, stick to natural colors and try to shoot with good lighting conditions.
  • Avoid extreme filters.

Stay concise – keep it to only what you need:

  • You’re responsible for your images, so make sure you respect intellectual property.
    • Do not include any third-party trademarks or copyrighted material, such as packaging, labels, names, or logos unless you have their written permission. Your own restaurant name, logo, and similar materials are A-okay!
    • Do not include any people in your photos unless you have their written permission.
  • No text or watermarks overlaid on images.
  • Stick to one photo per menu item, not collages.

Compose your shots:

  • Pay attention to position and perspective in each photo.
    • Center the item in frame while leaving space around it.
    • Stick to the following angles: overhead, straight-on, and low-angled.
    • To avoid distortion, do not tilt the camera sideways while shooting.

  • Aim for a clear focus and clean depth of field.
    • Give your item plenty of empty space around the borders for more cropping options in layout.
    • Avoid busy backgrounds and keep the focus directly on the item.

  • Give each item some breathing room.
    • Each photo should have a clear, single item in its entirety.
    • Give your item plenty of empty space around the borders for more cropping options in layout.
