Contactless Ordering App for Dine In with ChowNow

Aug 17, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has created an entirely new set of challenges for restaurateurs, their staff, and their customers alike. As on-premise dining resumes in many parts of the country, restaurants must adapt to the fact that safety expectations have shifted dramatically.  Restaurants can begin doing this with a contactless ordering app by ChowNow.

Studies show that consumers feel more comfortable in lower-contact scenarios with clear health and safety standards, so it’s critical that restaurants  accommodate these new preferences to meet the evolving demands of their customers. Contactless ordering app technology is part of the new essential toolkit restaurants need to reduce risk as they resume dine-in service.

Contactless Ordering with ChowNow

Here at ChowNow, we’re proud to do our part to help our restaurant partners best serve their customers and protect their staff. That’s why we’re launching Dine-In ordering.

With Dine-In, restaurants can quickly and safely give customers a new take on a familiar experience. As a natural extension of the traditional dine-in ordering process, it helps build trust with guests while offering a new way to order.

The feature is easy to use for both staff and guests: Diners can place orders from their own smartphones and the tickets go straight to  a restaurant’s ChowNow Tablet—contactless and convenient. Restaurants can assign table numbers to orders, or simply have guests submit their names for orders through the ChowNow Tablet.

Here’s how it works, step-by-step.

1. We set a restaurant up with a QR code that links to their menu.

First, the ChowNow team builds an online version of a restaurant’s menu and associates it with a unique QR code. The code is then printed on table tents, which can be placed on  counters or tables.

If a restaurant uses a table numbering system for their Dine-In experience, they can add table numbers to all of the table tents, so guests know which number to input when they check out.

Guests scan a QR code in order to view a restaurant menu.

2. Customers use their phones to view the menu, place an order, and pay.

Guests can scan the QR code with their smartphone camera to instantly access the restaurant’s menu and online ordering. If a restaurant uses a table numbering system, customers specify their table numbers when they check out.

In order to complete their purchases, guests must create online accounts. This gives restaurants the opportunity to collect valuable customer data with every order.

3. Dine-In orders go straight to the ChowNow Tablet.

Orders for Dine-In go straight to the  ChowNow Tablet, just like orders for curbside, pickup, and delivery. Dine-In orders are labeled by table for restaurants using a table numbering system. Otherwise, customers’ names are paired with their orders.
