Del Fuego is a four-location Tex-Mex restaurant that has served Long Island, New York since 2011. With locations in Patchogue, Babylon, East Northport, and Saint James, Del Fuego attracts hungry customers with a menu inspired by both Mexican and American cuisine. From tacos, burritos, fajitas, and much more, Del Fuego’s selection of dishes boast both freshness and innovation. 

The Challenge

Every Penny Counts

Prior to joining ChowNow, Fábian Pena, one of the head chefs at Del Fuego was growing increasingly frustrated with the cost of online ordering. Specifically, he was tired of having to pay up to 30 percent of every sale to third party marketplaces like Uber Eats or Grubhub. “That’s our profit,” Pena says. “These days, every penny counts.”

A US Foods customer since 2019, Del Fuego signed up with ChowNow in November 2020, a particularly challenging time for restaurants all over the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pena said the immediate goals he has for the restaurant include staying open and getting people back to work. Having opened their most recent location in 2018, long term goals include opening more Del Fuego restaurants.


The Solution

A Profitable Way to Reach New Customers 

Pena saw ChowNow as an online ordering solution that would help them reach their short and long term goals. Pena is also fond of ChowNow’s 24-hour support team and his Restaurant Success Manager (RSM)—an online ordering expert assigned to each ChowNow partner free of charge. Of his RSM, Rachel Jillings, Pena says, “I can call my restaurant success manager and say, ‘Hey, this happened, please help me out.’ And she jumps in there and fixes the problem. Who can I call at Uber Eats? Who can I call at DoorDash? Who is there? That makes a big difference. Service is the key for us.”

In addition to answering account questions, the RSM also works with restaurants to brainstorm marketing strategies for maximizing takeout revenue. Jillings noticed an opportunity for Del Fuego to get even more traffic through the ChowNow marketplace by including their ordering link on Del Fuego’s website–which lacked a dedicated channel for pickup and delivery.

After they added Del Fuego’s ChowNow link, the result was immediate and significant. Now that hungry and motivated diners could start their orders with one click, Pena saw his revenue more than double within the following month, all commission-free.
